With VNI-Word Tan Ky, documents can be prepared in Vietnamese and printed directly.
One of the most unique features available in VNI-Word Tan Ky is auto-accent placement. It also automatically checks the spelling while you type. For example, "Gnuien" is typed with disorder placement, it will immediately change to correct form of "Nguyen".
Upon finishing your document, spell-check can be invoked by a click on a button. If a word is misspelled and correct word exists in the spelling dictionary, it will automatically be replaced; if not found in the dictionary, it will prompt you for correction.
"VNI Tan Ky" is a new typing technique developed by VNI to differentiate with "VNI Basic". In contrast to "VNI Basic" which is based on "letter-first, accent-later" method, "VNI Tan Ky" allows you to place the accents anywhere in the syllable, whether by "letter-first, accent-later" method or vice versa.
You may also rearrange the accent keys on the keyboard. VNI-Word Tan Ky therefore, fully supports all existing typing methods known today, from the "accent-first, letter-later" used in the mid-80’s to the popular Telex typing method in Vietnam.
During the beta-testing phase of VNI-Word Tan Ky, many publishing and Vietnamese news organizations in southern California have tested the product with full satisfactory.
"I used to feel exhausted at around 6:00 PM after a long day of constant typing. But since I am using VNI-Word Tan Ky, I could finish all my work at 3-4:00 PM and still have a lot of energy to spare!" said Ms. Binh, a typist at Viet Bao Kinh Te newspaper.
"I don’t know anything about computer," said Mr. Khanh Van Nguyen, a Washington regional correspondent to both Nguoi Viet newspaper and Little Saigon Radio and is now living in Washington D.C., "but this is a wonderful software product because it’s so easy to use. Although the accent is mistakenly typed over the consonant M, it is still placed in the right position."
He has discovered VNI-Word Tan Ky during an official visit to Orange County in July, 1996. He also visited VNI headquaters in Westminster.
"This is a true innovation in the computerized Vietnamese typing technology," commented Mr. Dieu Dinh Le, editor-in-chief of The Ky 21 magazine and editorial director of Nguoi Viet newspaper, when discussing new techniques in Vietnamese typing. He plans to install VNI-Word Tan Ky on all of his company’s computers.
Explaining the reasons for the extremely comfort while using this software product, Mr. Viet Thanh Ho, president of VNI, said, "Because it helps to reduce the stress and endurance of typing. It also makes typing to be as easy as hand-writing."
"I have a habit of writing all of the letters then the accents, but sometimes, I’d like to write the corresponding accent right after each vowel, meaning I don’t follow any particular rules. I think most of the people write this way. This typing method augments our natural and inaccurate writing habit."
VNI-Word Tan Ky is a new release of VNI-Word, its predecessor, which is being widely used by a large number of Vietnamese people both in Vietnam and abroad.
Besides the new Vietnamese typing method, VNI-Word Tan Ky offers many other enhancements compared to its predecessor. One of which is the print capability of multiple-format, multiple-fonts and sizes on the same page. Previously, users often have to convert documents prepared in VN-Word to one of the publishing or word-processing software before printing.
Popular publishing and word-processing software products such as Ventura Publisher, PageMaker, QuarkXPress, FrameMaker, etc. are cumbersome and difficult to use for novice users. They also require machines with faster processors and large memory (RAM). Not to mention their skyrocketting high costs, averaging $500.00 each (FrameMaker retail price: $800.00).
VNI-Word is simple and easy to use. It requires only a PC running DOS with EGA or VGA display. It fully supports most of word-processing, publishing and layout standards as other well-known software products such as: regular, italic, bold characters; multiple-fonts in the same page, even on the same line; columnizing; left, right, center justification; spacing between lines and paragraphs; etc..
VNI-Word Tan Ky also supports most of the existing printers on the market. Laser printers such as HP LaseJet Series II, HP DeskJet 500 and compatibles, Epson Stylus Inkjet and compatibles, Cannon BJ Series Bubble Jet and compatibles, Epson LQ 24-pin and Epson FX 9-pin dot matrix printers and compatibles, are supported.
Regardless of poor printing quality as on 9-pin dot matrix printers, VNI-Word Tan Ky still produces laser-like quality for documents with multiple-columns and justification. Laser printers, of course, would produce better and finer print quality.
VNI is a Vietnamese software company founded and owned by Vietnamese to provide the same quality service to customers as of other U.S. companies.
