What Is WebNote?
WebNote helps you type real Vietnamese characters in the email and chat programs that you are using. It runs on Windows 3.1, 3.11 or 95.
WebNote outputs characters in the VNI-Internet Mail format, which shows Vietnamese characters with real accent marks instead of special characters as used in the VIQR typing convention. WebNote, however, supports both VNI-Internet Mail and VIQR. If you
wish to send an email to or chat with people who are not using WebNote, you may select to output VIQR characters instead.
With WebNote, typing Vietnamese on the Internet is as easy as hand-writing. Accent marks can be placed anywhere and WebNote will correctly place the accents to their intended positions conforming to conventional spelling. Corrections are also easy, even w
hen you choose to output VIQR characters.
Using WebNote in Email
To type a Vietnamese email in Netscape Mail, MS Internet Explorer Mail, MS Outlook, Windows Messaging, Eudora Mail, CompuServe WinCIM, etc. you only need to select the VNI-Internet Mail font as Fixed Font. Run WebNote on the background, and you can start
typing real Vietnamese readily.
WebNote also helps you read and write Vietnamese email in America Online, NetCruiser, etc. even though they don't permit font selection. (Select the command Learn to Use from WebNote's program menu for more information on how to do this).
Using WebNote in Chat
During a chat session over the Internet, each participant just runs WebNote, selects the VNI-Internet Mail font, and then starts chatting. It's that simple!
Download the WebNote (500KB) and use it for trial in a limited time before purchasing it just only $25.

Technical Corner
Enhancements in VNI-Internet Mail as Compared to VIQR
This section discusses the differences in technological and practical terms between VNI-Internet Mail and VIQR.
Although both are 7-bit Vietnamese character sets, VNI-Internet Mail differs from VIQR maily in the following criteria:
- VNI-Internet Mail avoids using punctuation marks such as . and ? for Vietnamese accent marks. Thus a Vietnamese text in the VNI-Internet Mail character set does not contain ambiguous characters, ie those that can be read as puctuation marks as we
ll as accent marks, which are often seen in a VIQR text.
- Due to its lack of ambiguity, a VNI-Internet Mail text can be fully (100%) converted to VNI-ANSI, VNI-ASCII, or another 8-bit Vietnamese character set without suffering from the type of conversion accidents in which puctuation marks turn into extra (a
nd also incorrectly placed) accent marks.
- In a VNI-Internet Mail text, you do not have to look for and isolate the real punctuation marks such as . or ? from the preceding sentences by inserting a blank or a / as some people have done with their VIQR texts. The result is that your VNI-I
nternet Mail text is clean, easy to revised, and more ready for print.
- VNI-Internet Mail avoids using the mathematical signs such as ( + - as Vietnamese accents. Some other less commonly used signs are used instead.
